What does a Compensation & Benefits Specialist do?

A Compensation and Benefits Specialist analyzes market data and manages total rewards programs to ensure the organization remains competitive in attracting and retaining top talent while maintaining internal pay equity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs
  • Conduct market salary research and benchmark internal pay bands against industry standards
  • Manage the annual open enrollment process and relationships with healthcare brokers
  • Ensure pay equity across the organization and conduct regular compensation audits
  • Advise management on salary offers for new hires and promotion increases
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (FLSA, ERISA, ACA)

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills for financial modeling
  • Deep knowledge of benefits administration and health insurance plans
  • Familiarity with compensation structures (equity, bonuses, commissions)
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, Macros)
  • Knowledge of labor and tax laws related to compensation
  • High degree of accuracy and strict confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS)
  • Experience managing equity plans (Stock Options, RSUs)
  • Familiarity with international/global compensation laws
